AAA Minnesota/Iowa offers these tips to make summer travel plans safe for children:
- Seat all children until at least age 12 in the backseat.
- Place infants until at least one year of age and 20 pounds in a rear-facing car seat.
- Secure children from approximately age one to age four in a front-facing car seat.
- Secure older children until 80 pounds and 4’ 9” tall in a booster seat.
- Buckle your seat belt – everybody, every seat, every time.
Whether you’re driving across the state or across the country, it’s most important to ensure everyone’s safety. Each child has their own safety and entertainment needs, depending upon age and size, so plan ahead and enjoy your summer travels.

Make your child safer with SeatSnug®. Seatbelts alone do not properly secure children. With SeatSnug® they do.
The SeatSnug is recommended by the Safety Mom for children in booster seats.
