Child safety advocates stress the importance in ensuring that when young ones are restrained with a car seatbelt, the lap belt is snug over the upper thighs and hips, and that it doesn’t ride up over the abdomen (tummy). However, once children are buckled and travel begins, the seatbelt may develop slack, get loose, or reposition on the lap, whereby jeopardizing the integrity of the restraint.
